"The separation of play from the ordinary world is a defining element of play," Unboxed (21). This line really stuck out to me for a couple of reasons. First off I thought about how it felt to play the games that we had created in class. I was not thinking about anything other than the game when we were playing and developing it. The game was a completely separate thing from everyday life. It did not feel like we were in class it was like we were hanging out and stumbled upon something fun and then kept expanding it to make it more fun. Playing the other group's game was interesting because while it was a completely different game it had some similarities. The biggest difference that stuck out to me was instead of having a teammate you were on your own. Unboxed talks about solo play and forming alliances on page 23, "I form an alliance with a player and then attack that player when he leaves his borders unguarded" which was something that subconsciously happened in the other group's game. When throwing the bean bag back and forth sometimes by happenstance two people would form an alliance and throw it at the same person, but then in the next turn if one of their backs turned the player who was their teammate last turn will take advantage of their back being turned. The last thing that stuck out to me was "people play games because they are fun" (Unboxed 23). Even though I had never played either game since they weren't a thing before that day in class. I had a lot of fun playing them. I could see myself taking them outside the classroom and to my backyard with my buddies. And from there new rules and quirks could develop and the game keeps evolving.
