In the reading, Flanagan talks about how some ancient board games "held spiritual or ritual importance" I can confidently say that the game we are designing will have neither one of those. It is, however, interesting how society went from games like that to games like Monopoly that serve no other purpose but to fill time with friends and family. In fact, I cannot think of any board games in the present day that have any significant meaning behind them. I did like reading about the evolution of games. This is something I can relate to since we have been taking pre-existing games all semester and modifying them to how we would like them to be played. The reading cites the early Italian game of Goose as a precursor to the popular game of Chutes and Ladders. I anticipate the board game we are making to involve cards and dice. "Cards used in conjunction with game boards," were a staple in early Asian cultures. These games were popular in ancient times and remain one of the more common and popular game types today. The video explores what "real video games" are. And states that they are games that are "story-driven." That is something that our board game will have as well. And it is something that the board game we played in class this week had as well. In class, the story was you are a miner who is going in and out of the mines looking for valuables and then bringing them back to town so you can get paid. My proposed game idea also has a story to it. That story is about three players who are prison escapees and one is a police officer. The escapees have to outrun the officer while encountering different obstacles that could change game outcomes. No matter what happens though the main storyline remains the same, you are trying to escape.
