I watched the video about how to play arena football. Arena football is something I have been familiar with for a while but I have never taken a deeper dive into how it actually works. In the very beginning of the video, it says "Arena football is a modified version of American football" (:19). This ties wonderfully with our class since in every game that we have played part of the activity in class has been to make modifications to it. Modifications are necessary if you are going to take a physical game and make it a board/card game. The sport takes parts of American football and adapts it to be played on a smaller field. For example, there are only eight people on the field at one time per team instead of 11 in normal football (:55). These modifications are similar to the ones we made in class when making bokashi a card game. An example of this is keeping the towers in the card game that they have in the physical one, but changing what happens to the towers to secure a win. in the physical game, you have to tilt the tower to an angle of 30 degrees whereas in the card game we made it was given 10 hitpoints and once it ran out the game was over. Back to arena football now. Like arena football the concept of the game we made is the same as bokashi, knock down the tower however the playspace is different. In arena football they compete on a smaller field completely indoors there are no outdoor options so with that there had to be rule changes like the ones I mentioned above (:46). One rule change we made to the game was that you could use a green card for a shield. This card would allow you to take extra damage and extend the game. When we initially played the game it was going way too fast and a way to make it last a bit longer and have more enjoyment was adding shields.
