When developing our card game this past week one of the things we needed help with was the socability of the game. Initially, we intended for it to be a single-player game where everyone plays everyone, but we decided to make it a team game to give players more interaction. However, it did not solve the problem entirely. Now that there were teams we had to get them interacting with each other which we struggled with. Calleja talks about relationships in games in this week's reading. He says that "games provide a sense of togetherness." We found this to be true in a few different aspects. Of course, everyone that is playing this game it playing it together at the table, but teammates would work together to defeat the other team. These interactions placed players in "social roles" such as "corporation." The chapter talks about togetherness which is something on the surface you would think our game has entirely. However, if you look deeper into the game you can see that it is not total togetherness and that is what we are working out right now before submitting the final design. How can we have everyone at the table engaged together at all times? Our theory is that if we add more cards that can be handed over from team to team then interactions will rise and so will the togetherness. it will provide opportunities to talk to one another and laugh together about the outcomes of each hand. Once we have done this I think our game, which was already enjoyable to play, will become even better and can excel. The fast-paced nature of the game combined with the new player interactions make the perfect combination for a game to be played anywhere in any social situation with your group of friends.
