Playing Battle Battle this week in class was a new game experience. The initial game I felt was "out of balance" because my card was too powerful (Schell). With my card, I could only roll fours and higher and I got to roll two dice. This led to dominating every game I played not due to skill but because the card was that unbalanced. Winning those matchups was entirely luck and since they had nothing to do with skill or strategy the early rounds weren't very engaging. After those first rounds, we made modifications to the game which vastly improved it. I made the lowest roll go from a four to three and it balanced the game out. But, the problem of the game being purely luck was still a factor. Battle Battle is a bit like poker in the aspect that there is luck involved in both and any player can win, but with poker, there are hands you have to learn, players you have to read, and card combinations that could possibly come out. According to Garfield "poker is quick" this fast pace of play is similar to Battle Battle. Both games can be played at nearly any time. Another thing the two games have in common is their customizability, poker can be modified to be many different games all while keeping the same framework. Because of this those modified game modes are easy for players to pick up and play with. Battle Battle is the same, the modifications that I made to my card were easy for players to pick up on. A difference between the two games is that there is no hidden information in Battle Battle, and because of that it is hard to strategize against your opponent.  There would be no guesswork, just doing what the dice tell you every time and going from there.
